Kehilat Tsemach Adonai is a place where we enjoy happy occasions with our congregational family. Here are some recent ones:

sukkahSukkot

We celebrated the third of the Shalosh Regalim by building a sukkah, holding a sleepover, and then finished with a great celebration on Shimini Atzeret and Simchat Torah. We finished the Torah cycle and began a new one.

Rosh HaShanah 5766

Charlie and Kirsten at Moran Beach for TashlichThis year, we returned to our traditional tashlich venue at Moran Beach in Santa Cruz. We made tashlich, blew shofarot and finished the day with a relaxing time around a bonfire.

October Birthdays 2005

October has long meant birthday month at Tsemach Adonai, and that continues today. Thirteen of us celebrate birthdays in October, including two sets of shared birthdays! This year, we held a celebration before the first Shabbat of the month.

Channah Urias' first dayChannah Aeryn Emma Urias

We welcomed Channah Aeryn Emma Urias after she joined us very early in the morning Friday, May 13 (4 Iyyar). Here is a slide show of her first day, including scenes from her first Shabbat!

Purim

On Shushan Purim, merry we were as we not only noshed on hamentaschen, but dressed up, read megilat Ester, played in the puppet show, and played in the Purimschpiel. When you add in the cheering and jeering during the megilah, everybody participated in some way!

New Year's EveEli at the piano

Every New Year's Eve, we hold a talent show and dessert contest, and this year was no different. It featured stand-up comedy, acting, singing, dancing, playing instruments and reciting poetry. It also featured our second annual Wheel of Yiddish.

John and Lupe Alonso won the dessert competition with their sopapillas.

Hanukah partyHanukah lights

In December, we held our annual Hanukah party with Congregation B'nai B'rit HaMaschiach from San Francisco. This year, they held joint services with us, stayed for potluck and dinner, and we held the Hanukah party after dinner and havdalah. Yes, we were eating all day!
